District 5: Stacy Corless
Framed by Mammoth Rock and the Sherwin Range, Mono County’s District 5 encompasses the southern portion of the Town of Mammoth Lakes, and is entirely within the town boundaries. The district has a beautiful mix of mountain meadows and streams, traditional “Old Mammoth” residential ambience, and areas of thriving commercial activities and growth. District 5 is a fantastic place for a hike or bike ride along the town’s multi-use path and the trails of the Inyo National Forest.
As the 2017 Chairperson of the Board of Supervisors, I will work with our board and staff to fulfill the Mono County mission to support our county's communities by providing superior services while protecting our unique rural environment. I believe that local government functions best when it is inclusive, transparent and collaborative—that means actively listening to residents and partnering with other local agencies to address regional issues.
My professional experience as a nonprofit leader and background in communications, earned during 15 years in the Eastern Sierra as a teacher, entrepreneur, writer, publisher, and executive director, helped me develop the necessary tools and good judgment required for this office—view my LinkedIn profile for more information.
I grew up in Lancaster, CA, making the drive up highways 14/395 for ski trips several times each winter as a kid. I was drawn back to the Eastern Sierra in my twenties and have lived in Mono County since then—like so many locals, I came to Mammoth for a season and ended up staying and making a home here. I live in Old Mammoth with my husband, Ron Cohen, and our two dogs (both from local animal shelters). I spend as much time as I can outside in the mountains, and Mono County’s beautiful public lands are very important to me.
I feel fortunate to have built a rewarding career and a fulfilling life in this incredible place. As the elected representative for District 5, I want all the citizens of Mammoth Lakes and all Mono County residents have the same opportunity to thrive. Working together, we can realize a vision of Mono County as a wonderful, wild, business friendly, and economically sustainable place to live and
