During the week of January 26-30, 2015, the Mono County Sheriff's Office, along with agencies from around the State, participated the the Winter Search and Rescue Course at Mammoth Mountain. The participants in this course we taught: how to properly manage a winter search; understanding the importance of a winter search pre-plan; the identification and utilization of winter resources; special considerations for cold weather operations; understanding cold weather in medical injuries and hypothermia; identifying key factors in Avalanche rescue; utilization of aircraft in winter operations; winter ground search mobility (Nordic skiing, snow shoeing, special equipment); personal survival in winter conditions (sheltering).
