RE:      Search and Rescue Team Operation: Aid to an Injured Snowboarder on Matterhorn Peak

On Sunday, May 5, 2013, at approximately 12:00 pm, Mono County Sheriff’s Department Dispatch received a call via cell phone for an injured snowboarder, age 24, who fell while descending Matterhorn Peak.

The Mono County Sheriff Search and Rescue (SAR) Team was called to aid in the medical carryout of the injured snowboarder. A CHP Helicopter H-20 was also dispatched to provide assistance if possible. A local guide and her group of clients were near the accident scene and were able to provide medical assistance to the patient. While a SAR ground team was en route to the Horse Creek trailhead, the H-20 was able to lift the patient out and fly him to Reno for treatment.
