Round Fire Update, Swall Meadows (8:00am on 2/9)

Good Monday morning, everyone! Please find the latest official update issued by Cal Fire on the Round Fire:

Location: Paradise and Swall Meadows
Acreage: 7,000 acres
Containment: 85%
Structures Destroyed: 40
Structures Damaged: 5
Structures Threatened: no immediate threats
Total Personnel: 500+
Injuries: 4 firefighters
Cause: under investigation

Current situation: Residents may see smoking debris on hillsides but it does not pose a threat to homes and structures. Southern California Edison (SCE) is making good progress at utility re-building and restoring power to the affected areas.

Re-Entry / Re-Population update (Paradise): The community of Paradise may be re-populated this afternoon if infrastructure needs are met. We will provide an update when the re-entry/re-population will take place. Please remember that proper identification will be required in the re-population areas. If you have documentation that has your proper physical street address, please bring that with you as well. We will provide the full details and protocols of re-entry/re-population as soon as we receive them. The plan should be available by noon. We thank everyone for your cooperation.

Re-Entry / Re-Population update (Swall Meadows): The community of Swall Meadows still has hazards, downed power lines and unsafe conditions and residents are not allowed in the area. Re-population could take place late afternoon today if infrastructure needs are met. We will give the details of the re-entry/re-population plan as they become available. The plan should be available by noon.

Road closures: Entry into both communities from Lower Rock Creek Road and Gorge Road.

Shelters: The Crowley Lake Community Center is still open for those that need a place to go for shelter. The Red Cross is also there for any assistance anyone needs.The shelter opened at 8:00am.

Verizon Update: A fiber optic line was burned in the fire which has caused our local cell phone service to go down. We understand the frustration everyone has with the lack of service but Verizon is working hard on repairing the damage. As soon as we receive any information on when the cell service will be restored, we will pass it along to everyone!

Other updates: Per Sheriff-Coroner Ingrid Braun, there has been no loss of life in this incident.
