California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officers and Mono County Sheriff's Deputies worked in a collaborative effort to arrest a man on Hwy 395 for speeding and driving while under the influence of drugs. The following press release was issued by CHP. - Jennifer M. Hansen, Public Information Officer

On Tuesday April 16, 2014, at approximately 7:30 P.M., a California Highway Patrol officer, assigned to the Mammoth Lakes Resident Post, observed a red Toyota Scion traveling southbound on US-395, north of SR-203, at 100 miles per hour. Once behind the vehicle, the officer recognized it as a vehicle which had been contacted multiple times earlier in the day by allied law enforcement agencies for speeding violations. The driver of the Toyota (later identified as Mr. Yeshayahu Dayan, age 28) continued driving in a reckless manner until he was eventually stopped on southbound US-395, south of the Vista Point (at the bottom of Sherwin Grade). Mr. Dayan was initially taken into custody for reckless driving.

During the arrest, Mr. Dayan became uncooperative and was restrained with the assistance of Mono County Sheriff's deputies. Once in custody, officers observed possible symptoms of drug intoxication. A blood sample was obtained and Mr. Dayan was medically cleared for incarceration. Mr. Dayan was transported to the Mono County Jail in Bridgeport, California where he was booked for driving under the influence of drugs, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana.

After being booked, Mr. Dayan assaulted a Mono County Sheriff's Jail Correctional Officer and two correctional officers were needed to control him. The injured correctional officer sought medical assistance from Mono County Paramedics. A felony assault charge has been added to list of charges being forwarded to the Mono County District Attorney's Office.
