Undersheriff Ralph Obenberger began his Law Enforcement career in 1985 with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. In the year 2000 he moved his family up to Mono County and started his Mono County career as a June Lake Resident Deputy. Over the past years he has worked a variety of assignments with both Departments ranging from Field Training Officer, Dispatcher, Special Assignment Deputy, Helicopter Observer, Sergeant, Lieutenant and Chief Deputy Coroner. He was promoted to his current rank of Undersheriff in January of 2008.

Ralph and his wife Ellen have known each other since high school.  They married in 1982 and have three adult children.  Their daughter graduated from Loyola Marymount University in 2010 with a Biology degree and is currently working towards her Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy.  Their oldest son graduated in 2011 from the University of California at San Diego with a Computer Science degree and is working in the southern California area.  Their youngest son is currently attending Gonzaga University and is studying Mechanical Engineering.

Ralph has been enjoying Mono County since he was a young child. He was taught to enjoy the outdoors by his parents when their family would vacation in the Bridgeport area on a yearly basis. Ralph and Ellen enjoy just getting outside, whether that be doing some hiking in the back country, fishing, skiing, road biking or just finding a quiet spot away.  People ask him if he ever regrets the move from the big city to Mono County and his answer is: "No, I would never go back."
